People are moving a lot. Not to be captive to the moment, but it seems like populations are shuffling around America at a higher rate than anything I can remember, hunting normalcy, community, and affordability. Well, many fled the poo and drug riddled cities and the onerous regulations of California for an Idaho promised land, only to find that Idaho prices were high and Idaho earnings were low. Unable to afford housing, we’re seeing a number of folks look to other red, or reddish, states, looking for greener fields.
Customers this past week were in that very situation, moving on to North Carolina. Thankfully, we’ve got plenty of experience with house cleanouts. We removed all the furniture from the home and garage without nicking any walls or doors. Even better, not all the furniture had to go to the landfill. A rocking chair and dresser found new purpose in a friend’s home (helping to decorate a baby room).

First Christmases aren’t usually remembered. They’re looked back on in old family photos. You’re mom’s sweetest treasure. She looks so young in the photo, holding you by the tree, smiling ear to ear, bright as Christmas lights.
We just had the privilege of setting up the celebration of a first Christmas. Except, it wasn’t for a new baby. It was for a woman in her 40s. She had never celebrated Christmas, had never had Christmas lights. And we got to change that for her.
We wrapped the trees in her front yard like candy canes. We clipped warm white C9 bulbs all along her roof line, both stories. By the time the lights were all up, the sun had gone down. She walked outside, we turned them on, and it was all unfair. The lights stood no chance. They couldn’t match the brightness of her eyes as, like a child, she smiled. Her first Christmas.

Here’s a pro-tip if you’re buying a home this year. Make sure your real estate agent get’s the seller to commit to pay for all junk removal and property cleanout. I’ve done a number of large hauls for new homebuyers in this seller’s market. One guy bought a house on the edge of Nampa only to find piles of junk and debris inside and outside the house. It ended up taking four trips to the landfill just to clear enough space for him to begin remodeling. You don’t want to spend all that money on buying a house, only to have to deal with the hassle of basic cleanup.
